A concussion is a form of traumatic brain injury resulting from the brain's sudden acceleration and deceleration within the skull. This typically occurs due to a direct impact to the head, face, neck, or body, with the force being transmitted to the brain.
During such incidents, the brain's rapid movement causes cells within the brain tissue to shear and stretch, leading to an immediate disruption of neurological function. This disruption is what we recognize as a concussion. Concussions can arise from sports injuries, falls, or motor vehicle accidents. They are generally transient and do not cause lasting structural damage to the brain.

Inform someone immediately, such as your partner, coach, parent, or teacher, so you are not left alone. Remove yourself from any sports, classes, or work activities until a Medical Physician can evaluate you. Rest is crucial in the initial hours following the injury.

Schedule an appointment with a Medical Physician promptly. Only visit the emergency room if symptoms are severe or worsening. Ensure a good night's sleep; no need to be woken. Limit phone, TV, and computer use. Avoid reading and busy or loud environments. Rest both your body and mind.

Undergo a thorough medical evaluation by a Physician. Typically, this does not involve CT or MRI scans unless a more severe injury is suspected or needs to be ruled out.

Stay in touch with the Health Professionals overseeing your care to ensure your recovery is appropriately monitored. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. Understanding your injury will aid in your recovery.

Follow the management recommendations from your Physician and our Health Professionals. These may include physical rehab, rest strategies, modified school or work advice, specialized therapies (e.g., vestibular therapy), and other recovery strategies.

Visit the Cochrane Concussion Clinic for further assessment. If you completed baseline testing before, repeat it to identify impairments and guide management. If not, a follow-up assessment is still highly recommended.

A Multimodal concussion test is a series of online physical and cognitive tests that measure healthy brain function before a sports season starts.
Concussion symptoms often resolve before the brain has fully recovered. Having baseline information provides healthcare practitioners with valuable insight into how your brain functions when healthy.
After a concussion, this information helps to detect lingering deficits and brain recovery levels to make safer return to sport decisions.

After an initial rest period, guided exercise helps reduce symptoms, improve blood flow, and safely reintroduce movement through a personalized program.

Hands-on treatment targeting the head and neck to improve mobility, reduce headaches and dizziness, and support concussion and whiplash recovery.

Targeted assessment and exercises to restore balance by addressing visual, vestibular, and musculoskeletal systems affected by concussion.

Specialized therapy to reduce dizziness, visual disturbances, and concentration issues, supporting smoother recovery and daily function.

A structured, step-by-step plan to safely resume school, work, or sport, with ongoing reassessment to ensure readiness and confidence.

Clear guidance to help you understand your concussion, support recovery, and reduce the risk of future injury.
