Mental training is one of the four essential pillars of athletic development, alongside physical, technical, and tactical preparation.

As a Mental Performance expert, Jonathan helps athletes and performers build self-awareness and self-regulation skills to implement effective routines for pre-performance, performance, and error recovery. To achieve this, we utilize Mental Skills Training (MST), which encompasses strategies for thought and emotion regulation, goal setting, enhancing focus and attentional control, mindfulness, relaxation, and imagery, all designed to cultivate grit, resilience, and mental toughness. Jonathan also supports athletes and performers to manage perfectionism, transition from an athletic identity to other life endeavours, and use MST for other life performance demands, such as school tests. Additionally, Jonathan helps clients explore and leverage their character strengths to tackle challenges both on and off the performance stage.

Once pain and swelling are reduced, progressive reconditioning treatment will begin.

Exercises will be prescribed to target specific goals such as mobility, flexibility training, coordination of balance and joint positioning.

As progress is made, the athlete and trainer can work together towards re-establishing strength.

The Journey

Elevating your Mental Performance Game

To be elite means having the capacity to handle performance pressure, along with the anxiety and stress that come with it. Through Mental Skills Training (MST), we’ll build the tools needed to manage this pressure effectively, developing and sustaining your ability to perform at your best with a strong foundation of confidence, motivation, and focus. This will help you zoom in when it counts, execute successfully, and maintain a winning mindset

Injury Rehab Support

Injury is an inevitable part of sport, and while this can bring adversity for athletes, it also creates opportunities to grow stronger mentally and return better prepared than before. Through MST, we focus on areas that support recovery in ways that empower you to feel in control of your process, helping you rebuild confidence and return to doing what you love with renewed determination and clarity every step of the way.

Supporting Team Dynamics

Team sports provide countless opportunities but also bring challenges that can hold performance back. Together, we’ll strengthen team identity, build culture, and create strategies that help your team adapt and excel in any situation. By establishing a shared mental model and uniting under one vision, your team will be ready to perform under pressure, respond with confidence, and deliver consistent results when it matters most on and off the field.

Bringing together the wider system

Athletes rely on support systems around them that are vital for success, including parents, coaches, and allied professionals such as kinesiologists, physiotherapists, massage therapists, and physicians. My approach involves these groups directly so that mental performance strategies are reinforced consistently. With every member of the system aligned and engaged, athletes benefit from greater clarity, support, and commitment throughout the journey.

The

Work!

Jonathan offers customized sessions for athletes and performers, as well as parents, coaches, and allied professionals, specifically designed to apply Mental Skills Training (MST) in a context that best fits their needs. These sessions can be delivered one-on-one or in groups. Each starts with an introduction to the foundations of MST, including a brief theory component to explain the ‘why’ behind each skill. From there, we focus on the ‘how,’ using experiential learning, ‘learning by doing’, to apply the skills directly to the performance environment. We also provide evidence-based interventions, session summaries shared via Google Docs, worksheets, assessments, and engaging videos featuring MST skills demonstrated by some of the world’s top performers and educators.

A high-tier athlete in his youth, Jonathan has always had a deep passion for sports, performance environments, and their power to impact lives and communities in meaningful ways. He holds a graduate certification in Sport and Performance Psychology and is currently working toward becoming a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
